    Energyhelpline is actually misleading.

I have put in my tarrif of EON fixed 8 and spending a £600 gas and £600 electric (with my maths that adds up to £1200 a year which is about right for someone paying £100 a month) but energyhelpline will then say you spend £1611 a year on gas and electric which is actually £411 more?????. Does your spend have to NOT take into account the discounts you get from your current supplier???

The only thing that I assume is that this is taking into account that by being on EON Fixed 8 you get discounts too but VERY misleading. It then works out your new supplier being CHEAPER than the £1611 that they work out you are paying? Adding £411 onto your current useage. They then go on to say that you can get your electic and gas £117 cheaper by switching.

Save up to £117 by switching today!

    Help and information

We’ve compared all providers so you don’t have to!
Your current spend on gas & electricity is £1,611 per year.

All the other price comparisons do not work like this one.

I have emailed energyhelpline now to ask why they do not take into account your "actual" spend as the whole point of having the tarrif Eon online fixed version 8 is that it gives discounts and it is part of their terms and conditions. It is not selective.

If you told energyhelpline that you're on EON fixed 8, it will know that it's about to end and will use the tariff that you will be automatically transferred to by E.ON when it ends. If you're currently paying around £1200, that will indeed be around £1600.

It does say that at the top of the page, you can click on an option somewhere that will make the site use your current tariff (i.e. the £1200).
(OK, it's not obvious, click on the "Find out more, as well as how cancellation fees might apply, by clicking here." link)

I agree that it is confusing.

As said above, on energhelpline if you are on an account that is ending. then they make the assumption you will be switched to the Standard tariff at the end of the term.

So if your tariff had 2 months to run, they would calculate 2 months at the old rate and 10 months at the new rate. However you can find out what you are actually paying.

Personally I don't bother with even entering what company tariff I have. I just enter the kWh and look at the tariffs for my consumption in their price order.

It IS misleading to the customer who does not put rounded figures in though. I always put in 100 a month being 1200 a year so I can see that comparisons are correct but for a consumer that puts in 164 a month say its a little less obvious of their total spend. I would also hardly think that as my tarrif ends 1st July, if I was to pay their standard tarrif AND their £30 cancellation fee also that my bill would be an extra £411 for 1 month.....

I am on eon fixonline8 and if I put my details in as kWh I get the correct results.

As has been said, the sites make assumtions if you use £s.

You need to put in kWhs and not even bother about your current supplier. You want what you will be charged, not what you paid.

Try leaving your current supplier as the default and put in kWhs.

    Then repeat with different suppliers.

You will still get the same supplier coming out first.

As long as you use kWhs.

Then they should make consumers AWARE of this and not offer you to put all the rest in. Again I will say, this is misleading. SOme will think they are getting a good deal (as mine said they could "save" me £117 per year) in LARGE writing when in fact they cannot save me anything at all.

I totally disagre I am afraid. My Eon FIX 8 is coming to an end too.

I used one energy helpline and read the smallprint. It tells you that your fix is coming to an end and that they have used the default tariff that you will be switched to if you do nothing. There is an option to use your old tariff if you want to.

On the basis that FIX online 8 is a cracking deal other sites just show that you will have a large increase instead.

yup, thats pretty much a MUST, otherwise you get caught up in garbage information in = garbage information out. Particularly people who are putting in DD amounts completly unreflective of their useage.

To be fair, they DO highlight what they are doing in bright red writing across the top of the results page and say to click here for more info (where it then gives you the option to compare against your current rates), if you chose not to click on that link and ignore it, its hardly their fault is it??
