BT want old home hub back for recycling

I had phoned Bt on Sun 6th May for a new home hub router as my old one broken. No problem received new one Tues 8th May.
A week after receiving the new one I had a letter from BT requesting that I sent back the old as they wanted it for recycling and if I didnt then I may be charged for it.
Now normally I wouldnt have a problem with this but I wasnt informed of this on the phone at the time of ordering a new one (which I was told would be free of charge) and there was nothing in the packaging of new router either. By the time I had received the letter I had already thrown the old one out.
I called BT straight away to inform them that I had thrown it out and to find out what the charge would be. I got passed from one person to another and no-one seemed able to help me with what would happen next and what the charge would be. After 45 minutes I finally gave up an hung up.
Today I received a freepost bag from BT to send my old router back!
Does anyone know how much I will becharged for this or is it a case for waiting for next bill to come in.

You threw a home hub out? They have quite a bit of value in them still. Look at Ebay. I personally didn't know they charged for them but I suppose they do still technically own them. I was charged a £49.99 for cancelling a contract early so could be around that.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

BT's inefficiency means that they'll probably never bill you if you don't send it back-but at the worst you can buy a used one on eBay for a fiver or less and send that back.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Maybe if they get round to asking, just say you posted it? Enough stuff gets lost in the post... Naughty, I know.. But I feel this is just another scam to leech more cash. I have never been asked for a router back ever.Still looking for the plot...... Anyone seen it???0
