Signed for a neighbour's parcel but they have moved out.

There WILL be a returns address on the parcel\invoice, so its not too difficult to phone company and let them know. Whichever way you look at it, opened and\or kept is theft. You have NO legal rights to keep the item, particularly as it is not addressed to you.
There is no use in fudging around the issue of should I or shouldn't I, you can clearly see the contact address, know full well what your rights are regarding ownership and how to go about contacting the courier.
Skipping any of those guidelines is theft, and if caught the consequences are your own doing. You know the risks involved, whether or not you take that risk is entirely up to you, the ball is solely in your court.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

well the outcome is - the owner chased it up with the supplier and came to collect it today. I HADN'T opened the parcel so all is fine with the world again and my conscience remains intact. I would still be interested in hearing the defeinitive legal position on this kind of thing though as it seems like signing for goods for neighbours is probably not a great idea on the whole...
Does make you wonder what kind of idiot orders a new laptop and gets it delivered to somewhere he moved out of months ago though...0 -

I am not sure I understand the motivation between either of these "neighbour" parcel threads today.
It isn't a huge hardship to contact an organisation and say it has been sent to wrong address, come and collect it, or send me a prepaid label - surely. To me, not doing that is morally wrong. If you report it and they then don't collect it, fine, there is only so much you can do.0 -
How did you know it was a laptop?!0
