Courier 125cc scooter bike - advice needed in London
Options
I just needed advice on a good scooter to buy. I was going to ask in a scooter forum but the ones I went into were not very populated so thought a better reply would come from this site. (if anyone can recommend a site that would be great)
I need help on choosing a scooter/motorbike. Must be 125cc so I can drive on my car licence.
I need it to do around 60 miles per day, 6 days a week for around a year. So around 20,000 miles in the year. It will be just travelling around London visiting around 10 properties a day. Obviously thats alot of wear and tear especially in London so I need advise on a good reliable bike that wont break down.
Budget - whatever it costs. Prefer newer one as it will be more reliable.
Any advice will be much appreciated from couriers (if they use these smaller bikes) and anyone else who can help.
Thanks in advance.

50cc can be driven on a car license
50cc + needs a CBT
I've no idea on scooters as i only rode manual motocross style road bikesIf Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred0 -

As stated 125cc needs a CBT. Cost about £100 every 2 years and displaying L plates.
TBH a scooter would not be my recommendation, be better off with the likes of a Honda CG which will run forever and are cheap to maintain.
Go onto a bike forum for better advice, bikechatforums has a few couriers on it so you might get more specific advice there.0 -
Sorry I should have clarified.
I have had my driving licence for over 12 years and want a 125cc because of the added power and added reliability. I'd guess the 125cc would do miles than a 50cc.
I know a CBT will be required.
I just wanted advice on whether a 125cc can do 20,000 miles in one year. I have never seen one with such high miles.
Also, I saw this on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-KNOWLEDGE-BIKE-YAMAHA-VITY-125-FREE-INSURANCE-0-/300557124463?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item45fa99c36f#ht_986wt_1139
If I get free insurance that will save me around £400. Why is this 2011 model so cheap? I always though Hondas and Yamahas are the better bikes to go for.
I have looked at Honda cbr 125cc and Honda cbf 125cc model purely because of MPG but still cant work out or get an answer as to reliability. Can I 125cc do 20,000 in a year, even from new, without crumbling up and dying?
Thanks again..0 -
Easiest thing is to look at what bike schools use. Their bikes get hammered by ham-fisted newbies, and will be trundling around all day. They also don't want them in the garage every five minutes being fixed.
Honda CG125 would probably be my first choice.
No particular reason that it won't do 20,000 miles a year - but it will need servicing regularly (which may well mean 4 services a year, I don't know its schedule exactly)
It will also be worth next to nothing after a year as not many bikers want to buy something with high mileage.0 -
20,000 miles in a year your going to need a new one every year if get a friday afternoon bike. Be lucky to get 2 yearas out
of one. Warranty may not apply if your doing that sort of mileage.
Most couriers use 250cc upwards, 400/500cc would be more suitable but you would need to pass your test for that.
Courier on L plates does not seem professional to me. Insurance may think so too.
You cannot use motorways so may limit the jobs you can take.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Suzuki van van when I did my cbt.

Hi
Bike driving schools by me use yamaha ybr 125's, so guess these must be hard wearing and cheap to repair.
For 20k year unsure however, google tales from the saddle, its about a chap who is going around world on his ybr.
Also you will find others on a ybr who have done the same.
So guess 20k a year would be possible.
Mine topped out at 65mph and did 120mpg, worst ever got was 90mpg with really hard drivingA shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

Thank you for taking time to reply.
ybr 125 sounds good, others have recommended that to on other forums!
Have a nice day everyone.0 -
YBR and CG are good shouts, bomb proof Japanese bikes, avoid Chinese 125's like the plague.
As long as you keep up with the servicing, and look after it, I think 20k a year is possible, I don't know what would be the first thing to majorly fail and cause a big bill though, parts a plentiful and can be cheap, and if you're mechanically minded most can be fixed yourself. But be aware, I have a YZF-R125 that will be similar to the YBR for servicing, so if you do 20k miles in a year, you will have to have at least 5 services in that space of time, which you may wish to factor in.0
