hiya,
i know there are things like Skype & MSN that can allow you to keep in touch with family/friends abroad. But I am not that clued up :oon what the best way is, and also any further equipment that we will need?
it my dh who's going to be working abroad, we have a laptop, and i think he will look into getting a netbook so that we can video cam on msn (i think) but I would really appreciate any advice or feedback from people that have actually used these services in real life and can give an accurate feedback on them?
thankyou for reading this.

If you have a laptop, then chances are you are already set up to go. All you require is a webcam, microphone, and speaker. I've not seen a laptop come without them, and if you are on a desktop PC then most webcams also contain a microphone.
You can also get relatively cheap headsets, i.e. headphones and a little microphone, the advantage is that it reduces microphone/speaker feedback.
