Scottish Power- Can they do this?
Hi, I left Scottish Power in September, I received my final electricity bill in October (period July to Sept), thank you for your custom and they refunded me £128.
Today I receive an amended electricity statement for the same period and they're going to take £78 from my account!
On both bills the end readings were estimated, despite me sending them the correct figures every month.
Haven't heard anything about the gas but if they can do this then theoretically they can do the same with the gas bill:(

Hi, when you leave a supplier, in your case Scottishpower, you give your opening meter readings to your NEW supplier, who then inform your old supplier. If the readings seem reasonable the transfer then goes through without problem. Did you inform your new supplier of your opening meter reads, if not then they might have used estimated readings to start your new account. If you did supply opening meter reads then the problem could be with your new supplier not the old one. You should always check that the opening reads from the new supplier match the closing reads from the old supplier.0

Thanks for answering Keith - the cross over dates tally fine, this is an amended bill from July to September for which I've already had the final bill when I left. My new supplier started billing me the day after.0

Ask your new supplier for the opening readings that you gave them, theoretically they should be the same as the final one you gave to your old supplier.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Hi tiamaria,
What has been said alrerady is correct.
The reading for the day of transfer is agreed between the incoming and outgoing supplier, with the incoming supplier initially proposing the reading. It sounds like a reading has been supplied and agreed for the transfer date and then amended later.
If you e-mail me your details to onlinecomplaints@scottishpower.com I can have a look and then explain exactly what has happended.
Kind regards

Thanks for replying Graeme, I think I see now what's happened, my final bill was under estimated & they reckon this is a more correct figure - I'm just not thrilled at being billed so many months later after leaving them, I didn't think utility companies could do that.0
