Hi All,
I don't know if this has been already covered and I apologise if it has... but today I wanted to restore my computer back to its last restore point and lo and behold.. there wasn't any.. I thought, strange.... so I created one but I have had the laptop for over a year and it should have been making automatic restore points... I went on the Internet and it appears to be a problem with windows 7, but although I am pretty computer savy with software etc I didn't really understand some of the bits I was reading so I thought I would ask what to do on the forum....
They didn't suggest it was a virus.. It was something to do with scheduled tasks but that was as far as I could understand... and then then it went on about some script on notepad.... For all I know it might have been the formula for changing lead into gold....
Any help would be appreciated...
Cheers

" One of the more interesting settings here is the option to “Stop if the computer ceases to be idle”, which means that even though System Restore might kick off after 10 minutes of idle time, it will stop if you come back to the computer. It’s also interesting to note that according to these settings, a computer only used on battery power will never have a restore point created… interesting. "
Is it likely that you only have the laptop on when in use, so it isn't idle for long enough, and not running at midnight?

Unlikely that he was talking about you or santerHe's probably referring to posts that have since been removed by the moderators.
Either that or his brain has been hijacked by malware (it's happened to him before... earlier in the year he was taken into custody by the police after they received complaints from the public about a man causing public nuisance. Apparently he was offering "v1agra" to strangers, telling them their computers were infected with 29 items of malware and demanding money to fix it, and asking people for their bank details to facilitate the transfer of money from an exiled Nigerian prince, etc)0 -

There were a couple of idiots in early hours but their posts have been removed0 -

Thanks very much... I now realise why it is not creating restore points... I've changed the time to the afternoon when I can easily leave it switched on (plugged in) while I am in the garden... I've also looked at the link you left ..
Cheers for that. :T0 -
Thank You for letting me know0
