£2700 for car insurance??

Hi everyone, I was thinking of buying a car but before I wanted to see how much insurance would cost. So I checked theorized a cheap £500 Ford Mondeo vehicle. I'm a foreigner, 26, with full clean EU driving license, living in the UK for 2 years. Not home owner, self employed, can park the car in a driveway. I went to gocompare and confused.com and filled out every detail as perfectly as I could and the result was a £2700 yearly insurance. The car would cost £500 and the insurance x5 ? Something wrong here? The only think I can think of is that I'm discriminated because I'm young, foreigner, not homeowner and have "only" EU driving license! Do you think it's fair or can I get it the insurance at a normal price? REally confused/

It's probably cheaper to bring over a lhd car on eu insurance. You'll probably never get a ticket either.0

That £500 car can cause £1000's worth of damage the same as a £2000 car can. Insurance premiuns have shot up for everyone this year so it would be advisable to play around with your quote, ie raise your excess to the max and put an elderly relative as a named driver.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Apologies for jumping in on this thread, but am new at this, and there is a link in the subject. Can't seem to find how to start a new thread so have had to use this one.
I moved away from the UK about 18months ago, but am just about to return for three weeks. I have the use of a friends car while in the UK, but can't find insurance. All of the companies state that I must be a UK resident. I can't even be put on my friends insurance. Any ideas?
How can tourists drive cars?
Many thanks

Internet cherry picks the mainstream easy stuff. You need to speak to a broker. The car would cost £500 and the insurance x5 ? Something wrong here? So, when your £500 car hits and writes of a £50,000 car and injures or kills the occupant creating a £1-3 million pound claim, do you think the fact that car was £500 really makes any difference?
Yes you are paying because you are higher risk. Lower risk people pay less.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
