    We've got a laptop that always logs on an a different numbered "unknown device" every time we turn it on. No idea why.

    Have to say BT are rubbish - we were with AOL for years and actually never had a problem - BT has been problems all the way. Can't wait to change!!

    the BT HomeHub 2.0 (actually made by Thomson) runs some flavour of Linux..

    Am I overlooking something here? What's to stop an IT-savvy householder from sniffing the internet traffic of BT FON users who connect to the wifi hotspot created by his HomeHub?

    Thank God this is such a law-abiding nation where no one would even think of doing such a wicked thing.

    No one appears to be able to do that though, having said that, if you're daft enough to use an unsecure network for anything that's important......

    It would probably be alot easier to impersonate a hub, and get people that way.

    It's called BT Fon, and I believe all homehubs are set up to accept connections. You can switch it off in settings if you want to, but then you're not allowed to use other people's if you need to x

    In the real world with BT Fon active, it's giving away your bandwidth to strangers. This can be significant on slow connections like mine. If you don't use wi-fi outside your house de-activate Fon. This can be done from the first page of the home hub manager http://bthomehub.home/
