It depends how far you want to go with this in terms of landing your relative in the sh*t. If you carry out a search on askmid.com (you will need your relatives reg no). This will then tell you their insurance co and you can contact them. They are unlikely to discuss it with you (due to data protection) but rest assured if they have been up to no good their insurance co will contact them for an explanation.0 -
Ask the relative nicely?0

The problem is i have had several relatives and friends ask to use my address for insurance but i told them all no. But i have heard people asking around for my postcode etc. Im sure if they have an accident their insurance will contact me and i will more then happy explain that no such car resides at this address but for peace of mind i wanted to pre-empt this issue and to make sure im not assisting in fraud0

I assume you live in a different area with lesser crime rate and they would want to use your postcode to get a cheaper deal but it doesn't make sense to say that the car is parked elsewhere at night because insurers would be suspicious if say the address was miles apart (which surely it would need to be to go from a higher to lower risk) so either they would not have done it or could they have said they even live at your address??0 -
I live 15mins away in an area as you have discribed. Thats the issue i have, in that im not sure how they have done it or if several of them have. I no they will save atleast£500 as one of them told me when they asked if they could do it. Im worried about my own insurance more then anything else, i have three cars registered (me and my family) and im worried i could lose my insurance0

Whatever is the case, and whatever happens in the future, you won't get any comeback as far as your insurance is concerned whatsoever over friends/relatives/complete strangers making use of your address like this.0

I wouldn't worry too much about them having Insurance registered at your address, unless they defaulted on paying their premiums. If they stopped paying their premiums, you could start to get debt collectors contacting your address. Debts are registered against people, but this does not stop people living at an address being hassled.
Then there is the possibility of your relatives not only using your address for Insurance purposes, but also for their driving licences and V5 DVLA vehicle registration documents. If they ever had an accident and they gave your address, you could be hassled by the third party and people acting for them. Not to mention the Police if the relative was ever needed to be contacted by them.
So this is no trivial matter and you should make it clear to the relatives that if you find that they have registered anything at your address you will report them. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
