Samsung SMT-S7800 poss issues do you have one? advice please

I have posted this in the Digital TV section ut I thought it maybe ok to post here too:

I have just received a Samsung Freesat+ HD recorder that I won from a comp.

I only found out the model number today and had a quick look at some reviews and on the Samsung forum and it doesn't seem to be very good.

The model I have is :Samsung SMT-S7800

Does anyone have this box? are the problems as bad as it reads? Is it worth me waiting till the 'issues' reported have been sorted?

I don't really fancy shelling out for a dish and installation if the box doesn't work, any opions & advice would be great

Thanks in advance

  • I've had this box since day one - and yes it is full of bugs. The first update did fix a few and make it usable (just!). I think when they get the next update done (which is due soon I think) hopefully we'll start to see this becoming the best freesat box on the market. It's solidly built and quiet - and could be excellent.

The main bugs to be aware of are:
    - Non series link timers dissapearing after going into standby (i.e. dont put box on standby!)

    - Late programs being cut short even though it starts recording at the new time

    - Sometimes get lots of 1 second recordings when programme ends

There are lots of niggles - but again I'm sure samsung have had LOTS of feedback and should be addressing them soon.

    Fingers crossed!
  • Hi, a late reply to your post, but just come back from Currys so frustrated as we have the same box, same issue in that it cuts off the end of about 40% of recordings, and yet Currys will not exchange, and Samsung will not accept there is a problem with the model...

Bought our box in December, worked OK for a couple of weeks, but then developed this problem, as well as deleting the library contents. Samsung will admit there is a known issue with the library contents being deleted, but not with programmes being cut off short. Have done factory reset, which restored the library contents, for now, but nothing will fix the problem of programmes being cut short. Not even a firmware update.

Have escalated our complaint with Currys customer services, who say they know of this problem with box, but refuse to give a refund or credit towards a more expensive box. At the moment all the help they will offer us is to help us 'fight our corner with Samsung' in obtaining a repair but if Samsung say there is not problem, we can't get Currys to understand that there is no point in sending it away!

Currys have promised to telephone us in the next two days... Will keep you up to date with the next instalment...

Apply sales of Goods Act. Did you buy with a credit card?

Did you update the software on the box to the latest version? I have the same box and it works well for me, but the latest software release is essential.
  • Believe that under the Sale of Goods Act they can offer us a repair first? Yes, did buy with a credit card!! Good idea - will try credit card company if we get nowhere with Currys.

Yes, did a firmware update and Samsung have confirmed that we have the most up to date software available.

We're so cross! And so pleased that people have read our post...
