I've got triple glazing in my whole house. The noise difference is brilliant and the company I bought from use 2 layers of heat reflective glass and must admit heating bills did get better too.

They a Birmingham company only mate so if you miles away then try someone local

I use to have secondary double glazing, when the main windows finally gave up the ghost i got new double glazed replacements the same style i had so that i could put some of the secondaries back again, so making it triple. Great for noise reduction and in my case i was thinking of added security.

Secondary glazing is loads better for noise reduction as there is a nice big gap in between the double glazed windows and the pane of secondary (or in Sam's case, thirdary!) glazing :D

Did she have to structurally reinforce the house to take the extra weight?

In my opinion theres little benefit from fitting triple glazing over double glazing. For instance the U-value of a soft coat unit 4-12-4 filled with Krypton is 1.1 which is good as the current building regulations for replacement windows require it to be 1.6 or below.

If you have that same unit but triple glazed the U-value is 0.8 so for an extra layer of glass ,cavity and some Krypton gas it only gains by 0.3............ For sound proofing maybe but for the U-values not worth the effort......

the web site you suggested has the following Advanced Windows – The Triple Glazing Company but I could not find the company number. It claims to have been set up since 1989 but fails to display (as required by law) the co reg number on the home page.

There is a company called Advanced Group (scotland) Ltd, reg number SC247041 but nothing under The triple glazing company so that can only be their strap line. Interestingly that company was incorporated 02/04/2003, so the first question I'd ask is explain the difference in dates.

As for double v triple, there are many debates. Basically the glass suppliers are promoting it because they will sell 50% more glass! Frame people are worried about the extra weight and darkness (three sheets will reduce the light transmitting into the room)

Finally triple works best with 16 mm cavities so 4.16.4.16.4 units are needed but this is too wide for many systems, and three sheets although saving more heat (better u value) has worse solar gain values, so actually a good double glazed window may perform as good if not better than triple.

I do hope you have a clearer picture now, its confusing the trade so god help retail customers.

Finally can I ask a BIG favour....Ive been on 99 thank yous for ages and its killing me, could you tick the box and make me happy?
