Some poor person is going to buy car number one that was very damaged and been repaired as a brand new car and never be the wiser as the dealer told me they would have me taken off of that v5 also, so no keepers till re sold!
And? Its panel damage. Put on new panels and whats the difference? Its not like its been in a pileup.I'm furious and have told them to cancel my order, I had ordered a new unregistered car not a pre reg one that has been taken off a forecourt somewhere. He said if I had not called DVLA I would be none the wiser as by the time I got the v5 i would be the first keeper! Is there somewhere I should be dobbing them in, surely they cannot do this?
I think you need a reality check TBH. Firstly there is no way in hell of getting a brand new car from the manufacturer in anything under a month or more so if you wanted one urgently it is going to have been pulled from a forecourt somewhere. Also pre-registered doesn't mean the car has done any more miles, is in no worse condition etc etc. It means there is one more keeper on the logbook - a number 1 in the box instead of "first keeper" being ticked. SO WHAT? There are so many pre-reg cars being sold now that most second buyers don't give a toss. Certainly when I look at cars, I'm more interested in how well its been maintained than the number of keepers its had.
I agree with Alias_Omega. Take option 1 and get a nice lump off or don't bother and start all over again but be prepared to wait a couple of months. Is being "first keeper" on the logbook really worth £1000s to you?0 -

I am unsure how they can re-register a car to a newer date.
2 outcomes here -
1) You accept the car, have a nice discount for a pre-registered car. Maybe somewhere near £3,000-£4,000 in your pocket.
2) You reject the car, have a refund, have another car etc, and it starts again.
No it won't.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Well I have rejected the car so have no car now. There was no offer of any sweetener for discovering what they had done or were doing by re regerstering to me, just told it happens all the time and basically accept it. Quite frankly they have been so underhand that I would not trust them at all now to buy from.
Anyone looking to buy a new white Smart passion right now beware, it might have a bit of history already when you think you are the first new owner!0
