Can npower bill normal tariff on E7 meter?
As subject really. I just put in an application to switch to them and assumed they would just sum the day and night readings as British Gas and EON both do. But then I stumbled across this:
If you do have an Economy 7 meter, you do not have to have an Economy 7 tariff, but you will need to request that your meter is changed to a standard meter before you can have a standard tariff. Link.
Is this up to date information? If it is and anybody has experience of this I have a few more questions:
1) What is the lead time for the meter swap?
2) Is it free?
3) Can they swap meters on weekends?
4) Will they generally refund difference between expensive E7 rates and normal rates (about 20%!!) during waiting period?
Thanks!

we switched meters a month or so ago, we're with EDF so not sure how relevant the info is but...
1. The wait time was about 2 weeks, but there were other issues with our account that probably slowed things down
2. yes it was free
3. no idea, I wanted it done asap and am at home most of the time
4. no they didn't refund the difference0 -
with npower the following applies
) What is the lead time for the meter swap? approx 2 to 3 weeks
2) Is it free? - yes credit meter to credit meter only
3) Can they swap meters on weekends? - usually not, depends on engineers job schedule in the area you live in
4) Will they generally refund difference between expensive E7 rates and normal rates (about 20%!!) during waiting period? - not a hope in hell0 -
Thanks, both! Sounds like this could be an expensive move then: day off work plus ~a month's worth of very expensive electricity just to get on a standard tariff. Hmmm. On the other hand the comparison sites say I'll save about £150 per year by switching and I will have a proper meter thereafter. Could be worth the investment long term.0

They will usually add the readings together for free... What have they said?:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
