When the thermostat on the appliance switches on the motor to pump the refrigerant around the system full power is required to start the motor.
No argument there. Motors will take more power to overcome the rotational inertia and phase slippage as the motor gets up to speed.
So the consumption goes down - doesn't it?However, once the motor is running full power is no longer needed.
Do they mean that once the refrigerant is cold, the motor doesn't need to keep circulating it? In other words, cool the refrigerant, move it to the parts that need to be colled - switch off motor and wait for a while (rather than keep pumping it).
I must be missing something here. Personally I would rather spend money on energy saving light bulbs or dimmers.
Of course I could be completely wrong.0 -
The average running cost of a fridge is approx. £15 a year, so it is going to take a long time to recover the cost of the plug.
WHOOOOSHHHHHHHHH……..
Blimey what was that ?
That was your life mate
Oh I wasn’t quite ready can I have another go ?
Sorry mate only one per person.0 -
Thanks for the replies but they say (they would I guess) that a fridge costs £55-£60 a year to run.
Plus I am worried about the motor burning out if it has to keep stop/starting? Or maybe it doesn't?

Hi ya Dave
don't buy one of these plugs since it will not save you any money whatsoever although motors have have a high initial start up current it is milliseconds and you would not be saving any money.

At my local LIDL,
and I'm sure other places (maplin etc) they sell a similar LOOKING device that counts how much electricity a device is using.
I think it cost around £7. It displayed how many unit of power (so you will need a calculator) to work out if your friday is a £15/year model OR a higher expense
Someone said "Turn your TV/SAT/Wireless router etc off when not in use save XX a year" can't remember how much
When I say not in use I MEAN STANDBY of course..0
