Are there models/ages of cars where roadside recovery does not make financial sense to have due to good reliability?

No. If you break down on the motorway, its £150 flat fee just to be recovered off the motorway so get a flat tyre and find you've no spare or the spare is flat and its cost you £150.

When NOT to get roadside recovery

When you don't own a car.

It can sometimes come in handy even then !! ;)

really why wouldnt you get it example at the moment quidco are doing £20 cashback on RAC vehical based policys when you consider their most basic policy is only £28 that means it only costs £8 a year for the cover or £21 cash back on the AA basic poliy costing £28 so making the years cover £7
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

And yeah, don't assume that because you've bought a Lexus GS that it'll never ever blow up. Doesn't work like that unfortunately. I had to call out the AA on a Korean car due to the wiper linkage coming apart in peeing rain. The sort of thing that happens without warning, can happen to any car and stops you in your tracks (can't drive in heavy rain with no wipers!!). A silly little fault that cost £30 to fix.

Happened to me years ago while me and a mate were off for an exam, and already slightly late.

I tied a bit of string to each wiper blade, brought the string in through each window and we just took turns alternately pulling on the string to operate the wipers so that we could finish the journey.

Left it with a backstreet garage at lunchtime and they charged me a fiver to pop the linkage back on.

Problem was that I was on the A1M, in the dark, on my own. jerry-rigged solution wasn't really going to work :)

And yeah the cost would have been £5 but I asked for the whole thing to be replaced as I didn't want to have to go through that again lol.

Where can I find recovery statistics by vehicle model/age to determine when recovery is an appropriate insurance to own (extremely tight finances, looking for all ideas).
    Thanks

    Absolutely none whatsoever.

Will breakdown cover allow for recovery after an accident?

    Yes, every time.

You sure? The AA would charge extra.

    2. AA Membership Breakdown Cover does not provide for any vehicle recovery following an accident.
The AA may, if You request, be prepared to provide recovery following an accident but, if so, You will be responsible for paying the AA’s charges for this assistance (including, but not limited to, any charges relating to any specialist equipment used).

    Help in an accident
As part of your cover, you can turn to us for advice in an accident. Your car may even need a tow to the nearest garage.
This offers reassurance in the unfortunate event of an accident. Remember, if the police have been called, we may not be able to help for legal reasons.

It seems be part of the basic package.

Before you buy a breakdown policy, check that your not already covered via your bank account. A lot of accounts nowdays include breakdown cover/holiday insurance/airport parking/airport lounge/accidental damage cover/will writing/mobile insurance etc for a small monthly fee.
