Too many accounts ?

Hello, just opened the Premier Direct Current Account with A & L. I will be making this my main account. Previous to this I have been with Halifax. I have a current account with them, and a basic cash card account, in addition I also have an ISA.

I also have a LloydsTSB account, this is just a basic one too.

My question is...

Would it be advisable to get rid of all these dormant accounts, and just have the main A & L bad boy ?

It depends if you need them or not. Its sometime worth keeping the one youve had longest open since it ticks boxes in the stability area when making credit applications. If you dont have a reason to keep an account open its generally best to shut it. Personally ive got 10 current accounts currently and keep trying to get rid of a couple, only to find a reason to keep them open.

Isnt it right that if you have overdraft facilities on current accounts it shows as your available credit, affecting credit scoring when applying for more?

some overdrafts do show up on your CR, some dont.
Last time i looked nationwide and a-l did, but natwest, lloyds tsb, halifax, intelligent finance, rbs, smile, npbs didnt.

Similar to what I have get paid over £1000PM so kept it going to halifax high interest transfered £500 to A + L to keep to terms with them and pay Reg saver and spending while all DD came out of Halifax with suplus clearing the Over Daft ( No Mistake). Helps with budgeting knowing you only have a certain amount for Food social life Etc...

This work really well for me...
