You carry on with the next stage of JSA, or you can get a job.Per Mare Per Terram0

Jsa doesnt just stop after 6 months.
Theres either contribution based or income based
The former is paid for 6 months regardless of a partners income
if hou have paid enough ni contributions in the relevant years.
The latter is paid depending on your home income.
If you get contribution based and after the 6 months you haven't
found a job you are shifted on to income based which takes into
account a partners income, if they are earning enough that the law
says you can live on you get nothing..0 -
I have no partner. So assuming no job found after 6 mths, they start ot look at my savings etc, yes. Do they ask about these at the outset of the JSA application ? You get conts based JSA even if you have savings ? ie, it is not means-tested ?
thanks0 -

If your savings are less than £6,000 then they will be ignored.
And I believe with every £250 above that amount up to £16,000, £1 will be deducted from your weekly benefit amount. So if you have £8,000, they will take £8 a week off.Per Mare Per Terram0 -
Yes.. You get contribution based regardless of any savings etc providing you
worked and paid your stamp in the years they base their calculations on.
From what I remrmber they ask about savings etc right at the start, but you
still get contribution based even if you have savings.
After the 6 months the savings will be taken in to account, when I was claiming
it was around £5.500 before it would affect income based jsa0 -
So, if you have more than £16k, they would only dedeuct £1 for each £250, (between £6k and £16k), ie £40 from the £67 benefit, still leaving you £27
is that correct ?
thanks for your reples0 -
If it's Contribution Based JSA, it won't matter.
If it's Income Based JSA you will not receive any.Per Mare Per Terram0 -

You seem to have got it sort of.
For income based JSA
Up to £6k of savings they don't take in to account (but if you are close to £6k they will want to check).
Between £6k and £16k they deduct £1 for every £250 in savings you have.
Over £16k you have no JSA paid.
And by savings they mean most assets, including shares, bonds, gold bars, cash under the bed, money you gave a friend for save keeping, property (not your own home) etc etc.
When you apply you are assessed for both income based JSA and Conts JSA unless you specifically ask to be assessed for Conts JSA only.0 -
brilliant replies (MX5 especially).
But why would you 'ask' to be assessed for Conts based JSA only. This would limit you to 6 mths. OK, if you had savings, you would not get Income based after 6 mthsanyway, but wouldn't they ask why you would limit yourself to Conts based ?
(so you wouldn't even get the £27 'left' after the £67 - £40 calculation?)0 -

Becasue some people know that they wouldn't actually qualify for income-based JSA, and would therefore prefer not to have to answer a lot of questions about what savings they have.0
