slow cookers reduced, suitable for single man?

Hi, I've read through some old threads on slow cookers as argos have these reduced:
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=571504 £8.99
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=568806 £11.99
What I'm wondering is would they be of use to my single man friend who, although a fantastic cook usually relies on takeaways or starts to cook late at night after work?
I think the morning rush wouldn't suit him to prepare his meal but can it be prepared the night before and then just throw the meat in in the morning when it's turned on?
I think if it's that convenient it would be an ideal christmas pressie, it'd be wonderful for him to come home to a cooked meal but do you think it would get used ?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice, I'm asking as I've no experience with slow cookers but have read how you all love them so much. Just wish I'd thought of one when I had no cooker for two months recently!

I think it would be an ideal gift for a man who cooks for himself. Probably wouldn't buy so many take-aways. He canput the meal together the night before, and then put the covered internal crock into the fridge overnight - just pop the whole thing back into the outer cooker and switch on in the morning. This time of the year he would probably get a lot of use out of it. Its a real comfort food type of cooker, stews, casseroles, soups, whole chicken etc.
Edit: Your friend could also freeze some of the meal to have at a later date.0 -
I have the second one and it is big enough for the two of us. I cook rice pudding and joints in it.
Not made any stews etc at the moment due to husband not being at home but once he is home I am sure it will be get a lot more use.

I have a similar one, actually I have two, and they're just fine for a single household.

I think it would be ideal. To go with it you could always make a little home made recipie book with some of the things off here. Then he will see how simple it is. I know I never realised how simple meals were to cook in a slow cooker until I came on here!

I agree, Ive always prepp3ed the veg & meat the night before then bunged the whole pot in the fridge- when it comes to tea making in the morning, wack the pot in thre SC and turn on- job done

Ive done curries in there as well- maybe you could give him a recipe for that
a little recipe book with easy recipes off here would be a great idea! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Thanks for all your input and ideas
Thought it would be great for him but wasn't sure if it would be left in a cupboard!
I have already copied and pasted some recipes to print out for him. Now just to figure out which one - in the picture they look different shapes, are they? Would you recommend one over the other?
I really wish I knew more about them a few months ago when I was feeling ill for the want of fresh food (never use a microwave any other time!).

I had the first one (until I dropped the inner crock) and its fine but the shape of the second one makes it easier to pop a whole chicken in. The first one will take a chicken but you have to kind of put it in head down

When cooking a meat or chicken stew in these or in any way, cook extra and on day 2 add some curry paste for that days diner.
