no claims discount

Hi,

Need a bit of advice please.

Until April 2008 I had my own car and built up 5 year NCD. I then took a job with a company car so sold my own car.

I have recently changed jobs and have had to buy my own car. Is there any way I can still use my no claims discount built up to 2008 or do I have to start again. Insurance is costing £1000 for a megane 1.5 diesel.

Your no claims only last 12 months, do you still have proof of the no claims? Maybe with a letter stating you have been driving comapny vehicles since that date you can get them back. Direct Line (I know) used to do a good deal for ex company car drivers.

Companies vary as to how long back they will accept a no-claims for, some 12 months, some longer.

The only way you can find out is to call each individually and ask! It wouldn't hurt if you could have some sort of no-claims proof for your company car too.

This wasn't the case with me when I had a break in driving/insurance policies.
I even have my proof of NCB for my motorbike which I gave up a while back, was advised by then insurer to hold on to it as it may be considered if I ever get back on the saddle.
Different rules for different companies perhaps?
