hiya,
I have this plant in my back garden. Bit of back story. We moved into our house in Dec 09 and last summer this plant did not do anything at all, just sat there and spread a little. It didn't die back in winter. I was going to remove it this year but didn't as it was just sitting there nicely. It is easy to remove, so this spring I transplanted some clumps to different parts of the garden and they have taken well. Anyway a couple of weeks ago all the clumps started throwing up flower stems which I'm very excited about! The leaves look like iris leaves, but they aren't irises (I know that much, I think!). I've seen some pics of gladioli, which these look like a bit, although the flowers aren't very big and they've been out a while now. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks!

hey thanks very much! I think you got it on the noggin! evergreen, check, drought tolerant, check. I can definitively say I would never have discovered this on my own.
Also found a website which says to ensure flowering it should be divided every year, which explains why it didn't flower last year. very useful to know, nice to have plants I can share with friends and family!0 -
I'm not very good with plants, but I think the one in the background is catmint.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I was waiting for some smart aleck to say "that's not a plant, it's a cat, and you're terrible at taking photos"!
Their catnip is over the other side of the garden, in the midst of a large patch of flattened earth :-)0 -
Hehe, bang to rights MrBEmorg_monster wrote: »I was waiting for some smart aleck to say
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
