I'm waiting for a quote re some electrical work at home, and would like a rough idea beforehand. (The electrician is reliable and recommended so no fears there).
Would be grateful for your views on what I'm having done:
- replace 3 x 4 foot strip lights (all using the same holes in the ceiling IYKWIM)
-replace a bathroom light (one of those flying-saucer types)
-replace a single wall socket box and plate (one of the plug holes has burnt out from faulty tumble dryer)
- fix a light in the loft and a switch in the airing cupboard
I'm supplying the 4 light fixtures, he is supplying everything else.
Thanks for your help

Hi,
I can't help with the specifics of your work, however I had a lot of electrical work done last year and it was costed on a daily rate. It was £200 a day (West Berkshire) but this might vary depending on where you live.
Also make sure they are registered with their governing body NICEIC is one of them. You'll need certificates for the work as without one, you'll have a problem when you come to sell.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
He will probably allow a day plus materials. Look between £250 and £300Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

What are you going to say if he wants more. "It says on the MSE forum that the price should only be £200 to £300" The reply will probably be "Well get one of them to do it then".I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

The first 3 jobs are easily done in an hour if they are "like for like" replacements as you say. The last job is impossible to time as the fault could be anywhere.I'm waiting for a quote re some electrical work at home, and would like a rough idea beforehand. I'd say look at a days labour as the absolute maximum, plus the cost of the materials.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0
