Yup Northerners. My parents are still in their 1st house, as are most of their contemporaries. Sorry it doesn't fit with your dearly held model. I myself, in my second house, have not spent anything like what your figures suggest in conveyancing etc.
They are not 'my' figures, you moron. Unbelievable. If this was in real life I would be giving you a few coppers and making 'move along' movements with my hands.0 -
Ah, you have run out of arguments, now it's time to start with the insults. Time I stopped bothering with you. Have fun flogging your idea to death whilst convincing no one.0

I find it hard to believe that average person in the UK moves 5 times as a house owner. Where is this figure coming from? I do not know anyone who was not renting who has moved house anything like that many times.
Maybe average "renters" move that amount, maybe more:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.

Factor that into you amortization tables. £54,000 in money not spent on the property itself but in actually moving. Wasted money that a renter would not need to spend.
Do renters not incur any costs when they move? Presumably more frequently, as they are more 'free', right?0 -

Just because you haven't ever bought a house worth more than £40k doesn't mean everyone in the country is the same. Look outside your filth ridden Northern mill town, past the desolate and derelict factories and gaze Southwards.
I was actually enjoying your posts until I read this comment. Maybe I should get some of my tough, coal mining, uneducated, northern mates to come down and say hello."For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. Those who don't understand, dont matter."0 -

I'm not sure how many people remortgage every 2-5 years either - not on deals that cost money anyway. See, if you have a small mortgage, when the 'boom' was on lenders weren't interested in giving you a good deal cos you weren't borrowing enough to make it worth their while. Now that we are not in a boom it isn't worth paying the arrangement fees to swap to a better rate as it negates the savings.
I'm just thinking that although I'm not the norm in still being in my first house, my friends who are also 40 or thereabouts off the top of my head 1 is on house number 4 due to husband moving about with work, 1 is on house number 1 still, 4 are on house number 2, my brother is a bit older than me and bought before me and is still on house number 1. I think there may be some people moving about a lot and skewing the figures - perhaps down to relationship breakdowns etc.0 -

Brilliant it will be the first time most of us will have met a real life country bumpkin before."For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. Those who don't understand, dont matter."0 -
Well you can't, cos I'm not lying.
You know, in some areas house prices never went ridiculous because the people living there never bought into all the hype. For instance I don't know anybody who ever paid full asking price for a house, let alone get into some bidding war and pay over the odds.
Shame that they did in Devon.0
