vehicle wrongly registered at my address: PCN bailiffs
I have had Bailiffs with a Warrant/Liability Order about a vehicle that was wrongly registered at my address.
I had sent back several letters from Congestion Charging, but they continued sending many more. I made phone calls to TfL but they said that they get addresses from DVLA. Soon I received letters from Camden Town Hall, PCN, Area Enforcement Centre, Southwark Parking Services, Traffic Enforcement centre. I wrote to all these bodies informing of the situation. I also wrote to DVLA.
DVLA wrote back with apologies and admission that my address had been used wrongly, proved by their investigations. They said that they had updated their records.
I believed that this would be the end of the matter. I sent a copy of the letter to PCN, Tfl and CCBC who also wrote. I sent back more of the Congestion Charging letter with RTS and 'Not At This Address' on the front.
Even with all of this Bailiffs came. I was not in and saw a hand delivered post from them.
How is this happeneing even after DVLA updated their records and I sent forward a copy of the DVLA letter as well as making phone calls? Task Enforcement pressed ahead with bailiffs after not receiving a my Tenancy Agreement or Council Tax. I did not supply them this as I did not want anymore associations with something that felt harrassment from the beginning, and just wanted it to go away.
What can I do to send these people away. What happens if bailiffs arrive when I am here? If I showed them my Council Tax will they just look just look and go away or will they have to make a copy or take down information. Am I withing my rights to protect my privacy?
Any advice and information will be appreciated.

Tell them to seize the car that the bills are for.0

I assume the mail is directed toward a different driver name too?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Thank you all for your responses. After talking to a work colleague he adviced me to contact the bailiffs which I did. The bailiff encouraged me to send him a copy of the DVLA letter and I have just emailed a scanned copy. I will now await the outcome of this.
Strider590 the mail is indeed directed toward a driver whose name is different from mine. I do not know this person, at all.
davidhwdn DVLA were very good at investigating this issue for me, so on that account it should be a good outcome for you.
spiro the protocol in spain is a good one and would definitely help matters over here. It is very easy to make a mistake and then an individual finds themselves harrassed over something that does not concern them.0 -
Tell the Baiiffs once and leave it at that. Any more is harrassment and tell them so, all they are are private debt collectors. Unfortunately you are victim of a commonplace scam and you do have to keep on top of it with the authorities, DVLA Police etc, but the others are parasites gaining from other peoples problems.0

I had a similar problem a few years ago. A friend (well, sort of... and not any more) asked if he could use my address to receive some important mail while he went abroad. Turned out he registered his car to my address without permission and started getting parking tickets and other fines.
I contacted the DVLA and the local councils that were pursuing the parking fines. I also wrote to the bailiffs informing them of the situation. One of the bailiffs continued to send letters - each time they sent a letter I sent it back, unopened, with a copy of the letter I'd sent them originally, sent by recorded delivery.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

My Mother had a V5 through the post a few years ago in a name she'd never heard of for a car she certainly didn't own. A quick look out of the window revealed it was owned by the new neighbours down the road who had obviously got the number wrong when registering their car. A quick phone call sorted it.
These things are not always sinister.0 -
I don't see what the problem is.
The debt is in another name, and you don't own the car they are chasing anyway.
Tell the bailiffs once what the score is, and if they come back then tell them to f**k off and sue for harassment.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0
