Major Computer problems

Okay, so I've just built a new computer.
It has a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 motherboard,
Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3 memory, an Intel Core I5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) socket LGA1155 processor, an MSI R6950 2PM2D2GD5 graphics card and a Corsair 800W Gaming PSU.
The graphics are not working right - the output only works if it's in VGA, and they don't look good. I ran some testing programs such as 3Dmark to see how it did.
It was on the desktop for around ten minutes, with nothing open, and it froze. I restarted, and it's launched Startup Repair, which has tried to restore but has now completed and failed to fix the problem.
I had an old hard drive from my other computer, which this happened too as soon as I put it into my new set up. I presumed the hard drive was failing due to its age, and have put it to one side to hopefully get data from later. The current hard drive is around 4 days old.
The computer now just loops through Startup Repair when I turn it on...could anyone help?
Thanks.

reseat all cables, memory etc etc and try again, if it still fails then welcome to the world of trying to sort out your PC from various suppliers......0

Go into the BIOS and disable anything gimmicky or 'sexy' or likely to cause conflict.
Download a Ubuntu live CD image, burn and boot from it, and see if the problem re-occurs under Linux. At least that way you can identify or eliminate Windows drivers as being the cause.

What operating system have you installed on your new hard drive?0 -
Before it failed, had you installed all the correct drivers after the OS install - chipset, disk controller, usb, graphics etc. Probably best to download the latest from the web rather than use the CD's that came with the mobo.
If it is doing a startup repair loop, then assuming this is a new/clean OS build (which it should be), then I would format and reinstall0 -

Tried this...Everything is okay as far as I can tell. Everything works, and looks well seated.Go into the BIOS and disable anything gimmicky or 'sexy' or likely to cause conflict.

It's got a brand new copy of Windows 7. It has installed the security updates to the operating system...The motherboard was missing it's installation CD but I'm pretty sure I've got everything installed.
I'll try Ubuntu nowBefore it failed, had you installed all the correct drivers after the OS install - chipset, disk controller, usb, graphics etc. Probably best to download the latest from the web rather than use the CD's that came with the mobo.

It now turns on, the majority of the time. The rest of the time it repeats this process. When it turns on okay, it works fine....The mobo drivers are all downloaded, it didn't come with a CD
Thanks for all the help so far.0 -
Have you tried windows updates to see if there are any driver updates?:idea:0
