WTC problem :(

I'll try to be as clear as I can be but please bear with me as my medical condition causes me cognitive problems at times.
Ive received my WTC renewal form yesterday and decided no time like the present lets get it out the way. Looking through their print off I see that they have noted my husbands hours down as nil back in october 2010 but there is no note to say he then went back to 40 hours a week 3 weeks later
I had rang them as soon as he found work to notify them of the change so im starting to panic. A phone call confirms my fears, whoever I spoke to on the phone hasn't updated my details or clicked the last button or whatever it is they have to do to confirm and WTC have been paying me for the last 6 months as if my husband has been out of work
So obviously they will now take all the money back so im panicking that basically ill have no WTC at all this financial year which i'll be honest we rely on to make ends meet.
I know there is going to be at least one comment of how could I not have known I was being overpaid but I've been on ESA(CB) since 2009 and really didnt have a clue what i'd be entitled to WTC wise as ive worked full time pretty much the entire time before being ill so earnt alot more money.
So my question is does anyone know if this will wipe out my entitlement completely? hubby earned £7600 in the period they have him marked down as unemployed if this helps.
Sorry for the ramblings, and I know whatever happens im just going to have to accept it as regardless how it happened I have been overpaid so ned to give it back, just want to know just how bad the next 12 months are going to be

Hi. I cannot answer everything you asked, but I do know with Tax Credits that if you have an overpayment, they will offset that against future awards. Sometimes meaning you get no Tax Credits for a period of time.
However, if you write to the enquiry centre with details of your income and outgoings, quite often they will allow the overpayment to be repaid over a longer period, meaning you get some Tax Credits rather than nothing.
Hope that helps and good luck.0 -
Thank you McGonis for your reply, I didnt know I could do that so if it does come back with no credit for this financial year I will write and ask them if they will take the repayment over a longer period

You might be due more. If he is on a low income but working in theory he may be due more WTC than if unemployed - depends on all your circumstances. You need to go on the calculator on their website put in both sets of information and compare the results. But yes if you are overpayed they are very good about you repaying in installments.0

Don't forget that there was a £25k disregard still in place last year, so they will take that into account.0

If they had him as unemployed and you on ESA then they wouldn't have been paying you any WTC! (after the 4 week run-on). Do you really mean CTC?
It might be you don't have any overpayment, it could even be they owe you! You could check the turn2us calculator https://www.turn2us.entitledto.co.uk/entitlementcalculator.aspx specifying 2010/11 as the calculation year and compare with what you got.0 -
hi everyone thank you for your replies last night. To be honest the whole WTC, CTC elements of the payment confuse the heck out of me. I too thought that if they had him as unemployed I wouldnt have been paid WTC as im also classed as unemployed in the eyes of the tax credit people (I still have a job but as they dont pay me a wage as i'm long term sick tax credits see that as unemployed).
I might only have been getting the CTC element and just never realised it. I've also got the problem that doing the renewal I need my husbands earnings last year and when he left his old employer he never got a P60 as the company went bust a few months later and they just ignored our requests till then. Am hoping that the tax office may be able to help me, worth a phone call.
Thank you Zagfles for the turn2us link, i'll dig out my old WTC form and compare it to what I should have got and hopefully the difference wont be as bad as im fearing.SPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £2470.95/£1000 (19) £780/£10000 -
Hello all, just a quick update, I have had a letter through from WTC saying that they 'provisionally' owe me £141. I haven't givent them husbands wage for last year and they have based this on his current salary (I dont think this is far off what he earnt but not ocounting my chickens yet!) So it looks like I wont be saddled with a massive overpayment. Thank you everyone who answered, it is very greatly appreciated when I was worrying myself even sicker
