Advice on new front door

I'm organising house clearance and clean-up of a property belonging to a deceased relative. The property is in a really bad way and will probably end up being sold on auction for not much as noone has the time/energy to do it up to a better standard.
At the moment we only have a key for a side door and the house clearance company have indicated that they would prefer access from the front. I'm guessing that estate agents too later on down the line would prefer a decent front door to get in/out. However this would mean not only fitting a new lock to the front door, but a whole new front door and frame as the current door and frame are completely rotten. We've received a quote for £500ish. It seems a lot to spend on a property which is otherwise falling apart and won't be having other work done on it. What do you think?
Another consideration is that the front door is so rotten I worry it's a security risk and getting a new door might prevent the risk of squatters, but perhaps there is a cheaper way of securing it until sale which doesn't involve fitting a whole new door...?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated. It's a rotten job and I'm not sure my logic/decision-making abilities are always making it through the emotional rollercoaster. Thanks.

I'd be inclined to board the door up for security purposes and if your convinced that it will have to be sold at auction, dont bother clearing it either....?
Sorry for your loss....
I'd get a couple of estate agents around though to value & get their thoughts on putting property for sale on open market, or go direct to auction. Still plenty of people out there looking for a doer-uper0 -
£500 may seem a lot but in terms of what it brings you (many tens of thousands of pounds), then its a small investment. Also if it is empty and the security of the existing door is poor, you only need the local junkies to move in, set fire to it or crap all over the place and the bill you have will be a lot more than £500.
Could well be the best £500 you ever spend.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
