Old bank account help: Santander

Hi

I had an account with abbey national, obviously before they changed names to santander around 6 years ago, maybe longer can't really remember.
I left the account owing £107 in unpaid overdraft fee charges, (yes I know it was my fault, but I was out of work at the time and the account had only gone over by £2 but they charged 3 payments of £35)

Anyway I have just received a transaction summary statement and it says I have a balance of £5371.01.
Now i'm not going to take this as a good sign, it's probably nothing.

Any help appreciated.

Are you sure it's in credit by that amount?

No chance that you're mis-reading the statement and it's actually £5371.01 overdrawn?

You might be a victim of account takeover and someone could be using the account for fraudulent purposes

I hate to tell you this: but is it on a black and white page (as opposed to the red detail you find on a normal statement) and (if memory serves) printed on either an A5 page, or only using roughly half of the A4 page. And all it gives you is a balance, nothing else?
If this sounds familiar it is in fact your overdrawn balance that has been passed to debt collection... What appears like credit it what collections have credited to your account to close it.

there are 2 pieces of a4 paper printed in black and white, the first has my name and address (for the envelope window) and underneath it says we enclose the following transaction summary statement
the second piece has my name at the top
    date of notice 11/05/2011

    and then below

    statement opening balance (12/11/2010) balance(£) 5371.01
    net balance (11/05/2011) balance(£) 5371.01

    thanks

For some reason these mailings seem not to be telling customers that this amount has been credited, I.e. By Santander in order the account can be closed and passed to a third party for collection. I don't know who that is, how long they take to get in touch, or even if they do in all cases: never had anyone come in that had been contacted by debt collectors, just had to explain to lots of people what these notices mean as it's far from clear - doesnt actually say on it...
