House Security (Alarm) Good Price?

Options
Just had a quote for a house alarm system and was wondering if anyone knew if it was a good price:

The quote is £285 and includes:
2 room sensors
2 door contacts
Key pad
Box for front of house

Bearing in mind we paid the house builders £85 to put the wiring in for the alarm I thought the quote was abit much.
Cashback earned
Quidco : £858 :)
Pigsback : £20 and a Beatles CD.

    Is it a wireless system?

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.

I'd assume its not wireless as we have paid the builders to put in alarm wiring.

Depends on what the quote was for, you didnt mention a control panel ?
Does it include fitting and programming ? Also parts cost depend on quality, twin technology sensors (IR+microwave) for instance can be as miuch as £50 each.

As a guide; Standard sensors £20 each, £30 siren, £6 for the contacts £30 for the keypad = approx £106 for the parts.

    Kit price is cheaper see;

Fitting and programming would be a mornings work so at least £100 on top of the parts cost.

Sorry, the quote was for a full alarm system fully fitted.

  • Thats a bit on the steep side.
I used to fit alarms with 3 PIR's, 2 sets of contacts, 1 bell box, 1 dummy box, 1 control panel, 1 keypad and a PA button for £160.

I'd definitely suggest ringing around for some more quotes.
This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down
  • Having just fitted an alarm to my new house myself. I paid around £100 just for the control panel and keypad. Then about £20 for each Dual tech sensor and ~£3 per door contact. Ended up paying around £250 for the whole alarm system... but it did take me a solid weeks work to fit as I'm not a pro.

So it could be a good quote or it could be a bad quote you need to find out what control panel they are fitting?

I have a Veritas excel panel and it is a very good small house alarm panel.

I was told by a firm today that the standard price for an alarm is £325 plus VAT but as we have the wiring they knock off £75 and we don't pay VAT as its a new build. We've decided to go for the £285 firm as we know two people who he has fitted an alarm for.
