Its a bit 'how long is a piece of string' question.

It depends how high up you want it. how far he/she has to run the cable to join into the electrickery supply, how far away is the switch etc etc.

Have a look for a Solar Powered one then there are no wires and i am sure a friend or a friend of a friend will just put it on the wall for the price of a drink.

A solar powered one would be much easier but do they actually work ? Everytime i have bought anything solar powered its always just a dim glow rather than lights anything up

Can anybody recommend a good one ?

Found the above one. I have to go out so would have looked longer but have a look on Amazon for one and check the reviews on the lights, then see if its cheaper somewhere else.

I have always found solar lights rubbish , ive had the ones that you get 6 in a pack and paid around £10-£15 but they just glow alittle then after a few months stop working . I wondered whether this is because ive bought cheap ones or are all solar lights rubbish , when looking at reviews they are all very mixed .

I had 2 outside lights supplied and fitted along with an external socket for £70 + VAT (although the guys were already on site doing other work).
