You could always buy a drive and a caddy seperately - thats what I did. Price isn't much different but you can re-use the caddy if the drive ever fails

As far as internal drives go I'd buy nothing other than Seagate. I've had (and know people who have had) far more WD and Maxtor die than Seagate.
Not sure about external but I probably would go for Seagate if I was buying one.0
