External Hard Drives

Hi all,

My first post...

Whats the best deal for a external hard drive. I noticed one in Currys:
SEAGATE ST3320620U2-RK External Hard Drives 240892
This is £79.99

If I use 10% off with free delivery codes it works out £71.99
which is about £0.225 per gb

I went for the Amazon misprice, but my order was cancelled.

any good deals around?

PC World, who I wouldn't normally give the time of day to, are selling a 320GBSeagate external (USB2.0, 8mb cache, 7200 rpm) for £89. Maybe you can use Quidco and the collect at store option to shave a little extra off the cost.

Possibly the same one as in Currys??????

    Ah, Seagate.

    There's your problem. Right there.

Is it that bad? Was going to get it today, but none at our nearest currys store.
So......you don't recommend it at all?

    thanks for any info.

No, not a recommended buy for a storage device.

You need reliability...........Western Digital or, erm, nothing.

Put it this way, how much value would you put on a warranty if your hard drive dies and your data is gone forever?

Nothing wrong with Seagate hard drives - I've been building pcs for years and only ever buy Seagate Barracuda drives. Unfortunately, though, they seem to have a poor reputation for external storage.

You could always buy a drive and a caddy seperately - thats what I did. Price isn't much different but you can re-use the caddy if the drive ever fails
