I have to get up at stupid o clock to be there to sell tickets for the first train, I work every bank holiday for no extra pay and am commited to working rostered sundays throughout the year for which I get paid only time and a quarter. I have one day off in the week and often work saturdays for no extra pay. The only days off are Christmas Day and Boxing Day. "Short" working days are necessary when working front line, dealing with "angry and irrascible" customers and rising at such an early hour. We regularly face abuse from passengers for a variety of reasons but usually "because they can" so I take exception to the remarks made by McNulty. I wouldn't do anything else because I love the job that I do and expect to be paid a sensible wage for the commitment I give.
So in 33 years it has not occurred to change job or career? It can't be as bad as you make out then!
And your time and a quarter on Sundays is more than lots of people in retail get!0 -

If you read what I wrote I love the job and wouldn't do anything else and I expect a reasonable wage for the hours that I work. Im sure people in retail may not be on enhanced pay for the job on Sundays and life isn't fair but our unions have fought long and hard for our pay and conditions taking account of the duties we carry out. My duties are also platform based which involve safe running of the railways in all weathers and in times of disruption.
My wage is not higher than the "average" wage0
