How do I look back at web pages viewed in history?

How do I obtain a list of websites that have been looked at on the PC other than the history list that comes up next to favourites?
Have done some Xmas shopping research and deleted them from history so MR A wouldn't know what he was getting for Xmas. Now I need to find two of the sites again. If it would tell me how long each was viewed for that would help me remember which of the many I looked at I need to return to.
I know there is a way but don't know how. Could someone do a step by step idiots guide. Cheers

Use an Index.dat viewer, e.g. http://www.scanraid.com/indexdat.htm0

Isn't there a way to do it without installing something? I know I'd get stuck somewhere along the line with that!MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0
