The cost of cold

I know there are a couple of other threads going about people who have had horrendous bills come through. However, as they are, I hope, exceptional cases, I thought I'd start a new thread to see what "the coldest winter for 30 years" has cost people.

A couple of days ago, I gave a meter reading to Scottish Power, and as a result, my bill has gone up by £51 to £176 per month. This is to pay off the debt of £325 we racked up over winter, where gas usage was 24-40% higher than our average.

Anyone else having the same?

I think the cost should be in Kilowatts, using pounds is misleading as it all depends upon the unit price

The period 30 Oct 2010 to 2 Feb 2011 we used 4567kWh, equating to £144.03 of gas (including standing charge, bill following meter reading).
As a comparison, the bill for 28th April to 16th July 2010 (which is a slightly shorter period), we used 644kWh (£36.95).
This is in a 4-storey 2-bed back-to-back terrace with GCH.
Gas monthly DD is set (following a recent review) at £25 a month, electricity at £20. I am always amazed at how much other people have to pay (although I suspect I should be more amazed at how little we do). Currently with EDF.

from the 29th September to the 30th March I used 14800 kWh of gas with a maximum daily usage of 133 kWh per day at Christmas.

That was for heating, hot water and cooking.

I will probably use 4200 kWh for the next 6 months for hot water and cooking and the occasional top up of heat

13 October to 3 April we used 2750kWh of gas. That cost £125.72.

    Modern 2-bed mid-terrace.

From Dec 5th to March 4th (89 days) we used an extra 180 units of electic and got thru around 213L of heating oil so winter cost us roughly an extra £1.30 a day, tho if this year follows suit be looking at min 70p rise for the same usage

The cold weather was media hype. I didnt find it that bad. I pay £53 pm for gas and electric :)
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
