Hi people!
Can any of you pc wise guys help me out?
My latest AVG virus scan has just detected and automatically quarantined the Flooder.ake Trojan horse in winlogon.exe
I did a Google search on it, and found a help site which suggested that if I shut down my pc it will not be able to reboot because the virus will seize it in a loop??
Does anyone know about this virus?
I'm frightened to shut down my pc now because I don't have a windows XP pack disc to re-install it if necessary.
Can someone tell me if I'm safe to shut down my PC please??

Thanks for that startrekker, and this is the site that I referred to in my intitial post.
But, the advice wasn't totally clear to me because I upgraded to AVG 7.5 about a month ago, and no pop-up window alerted me to the Flooder.ake virus. In fact, if I hadn't run a virus scan I would never have known it was there.
Basically what I'm saying is that AVG automatically quarantined the supposedly winlogon.exe file during the scan. I did not touch anything, and I have not shut down since. The file source says that's its a back up copy that's infected and now quarantined.
Do you think my system will not be able to boot up?
Now that I am still up, should I restore the virus from quarantine?
Sorry to pile all these questions on you all, but the site you referred me to doesn't seem to directly answer my particular situation.0 -
I would try restoring the file from the virus vault and then use one of the online scanners
http://www.trendmicro.com/hc_intro/default.asp
to see what it picks up, if it's a false positive by AVG then it will not show up on that online scanEx forum ambassador

Would be sensible to back up all your data now, just in case. I'm sure a friend would help you out with a disk to start up with, but it's not much good if your data go west.0

Have a look at avg forum HERE
It seems that someone has found a fix, so read the info carefully and follow what was done. There are two pages so make sure you read and understand them both before you go ahead..Good luckI have nothing better to do!!!!

Thanks everyone! I think I'm ok now.
I restored the file after updating the latest AVG definitions which included the fix. Everything seems fine, and nothing detected on new scan. However for safety I will scan with a diff system as Browntoa suggests.0
