Scanable Tescos vouchers--- Is it fraud?

Two checkout operators at my local Tesco have been sacked for knowingly accepting 'copied' coupons and the customer banned from the store. Scaremongering - ??? ??? ???0
-
The vouchers are not fraud - they are vouchers found on the net that have just been collated into one document thats all.
I don't think the durex one is working anymore anyway and the barcode was never changed.:heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0 -

Quite right!
But what Debbie S and others seem to be suggesting (barcode manipulation) is definitely forgery!0 -
Technically, the fact that Tesco take the vouchers against items you have not purchased is fraud, but (big but) it's their decision to do this, as they don't cross check their receipts.
The consumer is not committing fraud by handing over the vouchers as this is done in good faith.
It is certainly not fraud to take freely available vouchers and collate them for everyone's use and benefit.
Changing the barcode is, I think stepping over the moral and legal line however!!!I'm so sexy it's a wonder my underpants don't explode.0 -
Um... yes I don't think I will use them. All I did was replace the fuzzy barcode with an identical clear one. The numbers match and the lines are the same. Oh well. Is anyone able to contact Mumplusone and ask them to send out vouchers of better quality. When I email them it just bounces back.Think of happiness as a kind of mental gardening.0

If you have just enhanced the bar code image for clarity - then you're all right in my book. ;D
Anything to reduce the time spent at the till. (My favourite operator will ALWAYS type in vouchers that don't scan, but I guess other operators will always reject non-scanning vouchers.)
The worry is that unscrupulous folk will ALTER the bar code information (to increase value/extend expiry date) which will raise a big red flag at Tesco/Asda - and our nice little earner will end abruptly.0 -
I agree wispa!! I think the new vouhers are now scannable but thats just because the image is clearer. Changing the vouchers could get us into BIG trouble!!!:heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0

I would be happy to use them as long as the barcode numbers are the exact same as the original - if it was changed then I wouldn't do it. The bar code numbers are what count and to be honest if we just took the barcode in and not the rest of the voucher (apart from the expiry date I guess) the voucher would still work!
Anybody can download these vouchers from the net, I thought it just made the checkout persons life easier if they just beep through. Surely a slightly different font or a less fuzzy bar is not fraud if the details are a faithful copy.0 -
Oh I don't know now. The barcodes are the same just the font of the numbers is different. Is there anyone we can ask? It would save a lot of time for Tesco.Think of happiness as a kind of mental gardening.0

Well I'm gonna give it a go - what I thought I might do is use the self serve till and if they beep- put one of the original fuzzy ones in the coupon box - therefore the original is being used but we can scan them - is that a good compromise??0
