Tom Tom updates
Options
My 4 year old Tom Tom one is badly in need of new maps - however, it is only a 1Gb model with 88Mb free !!
(No memory card)
So I am backing it up and am looking for the cheapest method of updating - any suggestions ??
Tom Tom appear to want £6.95 per quarter - if I pay for 12 months in advance - why would I want an update every 3 months for a year ?
I am just looking for a one off update.......

Which TomTom version is it?0

Hi Twinkle
The new Map overwrites the old map so you will have enough space, however it will also wipe out your saved locations so make sure you have a note of any important ones before you upgrade.
AFAIK your only option is the Tom Tom upgrade site as (it says) that each map download is locked to the device that downloads it to stop people selling the maps on on e-bay ectTotally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -

I assume the op has the old under 1GB EU map which is now over 1GB. The quarterly update will not be an immediate option as the latest map is needed to use this so the only way will be to buy a new map. Connect the machine to TT Home and it will show you what is available. If you do decide to take the plunge remember to do a full windows backup of the device (my computer, look for the tomtom and copy it to your HD) before you start downloading.0 -
Thanks - Yes, my old version (8.0.1.0 ?) Western Europe is just under 1Mb - so I am assuming that I will be limited to UK ?0

No, the map is now divided into sections for the smaller memory devices so you keep some on your computer and one on the device.

To save your locations etc all you need to do is save the MapSettings.cfg file from the map folder and copy it back to the new map
Pity I did not know that before I updated & lost all mine
