    And here is the answer.

Many thanks for your enquiry about the relative prices of Original and No Added Sugar Alpen.

Your question is an interesting one which has been asked of us once or twice before.

The explanation is in the ingredients, or more specifically, their relationship to each other. Most of the cost of muesli is in the raw materials and the lower priced (per tonne) of these are sugar and oats as opposed to fruit and nuts. No Added Sugar Alpen contains a proportionately greater amount of fruit to increase its natural sugar content and therefore costs more to produce.

I hope I have been able to answer your question and thank you again for giving us the opportunity to do so. It is always nice to hear from our friends.

If you would like to send me your full postal address I will send you some vouchers towards your next pack.

    Kind regards

Interesting... although that's a blatant lie. They really didn't think it through, did they?

Alpen Original (AO) contains 12.5% raisins - the only fruit. 12.5% of 750g is 93.75g. Sugar Free Alpen (SFA) contains 15% raisins - again the only fruit content. 15% of 560g is 84g. So there is more fruit in Alpen Original!

Both varieties contain 2.5% nuts, so that's 18.75g in Alpen Original and only 14g in Sugar Free Alpen. So there are also more nuts in Alpen Original!

But despite getting fewer nuts, fewer raisins, less wheat, less oats, and absolutely no added sugar, Sugar Free Alpen is effectively (750/560= 1.33) times the cost of Original Alpen - that's a third more expensive if I've done my sums correctly! And then on top of that, they lie about it too!

Grrrr!!! I'm going to try the supermarket own brands next time!

Aldi have 2/3 types from basic to "luxury" worth a try.
