Nationwide - lost laptop- bloody cheek!

After sending me a new debit card completely out of the blue (no connection with the lost laptop, of course), like many, I suspect, I have now received an apology over that incident. Over 50% of this 'apology' letter was guidelines to me as to how to improve security, together with two leaflets for me about identity theft.
Funny, I don't remember being the one at fault here.

Two days ago my friend's debit card was cancelled because someone (not her) was using it to make a £300 purchase over the internet (including the CV2 number). Of course she is with Nationwide who assured her it had nothing to do with the stolen laptop. Now although the info may not have been too personal and secure on the laptop, what the hell was it doing in the employee's home?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

CV2 numbers are currently a waste of time. Few companies bother checking them (try it next time you buy over the net) and legally companies are not allowed to store the number to check against next time you use the card.0 -

Well I presume they must have got it from somewhere, as they apparently were using the right number. Not necessarily from the internet but maybe copied in a shop or something."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
