Do I cancel, or do I 'switch'

MSE's, next month (I think) is the final month of what has been my excruciating year with Pipex Broadband (Hoorah :j ) and I get to move my line to a more respectable, value for money, customer service geared broadband provider. :rotfl: Yeah okay, so one of these doesnt exist, but i'm still defo leaving the hasselhoff inspired nitwits, who still havent connected my line at my new address

Anyway, the advice I am seeking is thus. Is it better for me to, around about, hmm, now, cancel my contract with them, therefore running down the last month before I move on to someone else, or take out another contract with x provider without cancelling the current one, and have them 'switch' the line to their service? Do I run the risk of incurring costs if I cancel pipex and take out another service (ie modem, installation etc)? Or is this the best way to go about a move?

I also have a 3 month BT line which I am to be changing possibly after the 3 months is over, but shouldnt imagine this will cause too much problems, just felt it worth mentioning!

Any help would be greatly appreciated as if I need to cancel or take a new account with someone, I'll need to do it fairly now! Thanks

Well discuss with your current ISP, if you've fulfilled (or nearly fulfilled) your contract with them then i doubt an application for a migration code would be refused.

As far as down times go, if you switch using a migration code then you'll be looking at a downtime of maybe 1-2 days (at a max). If you choose to go down the cancellation route, then you'd be looking at 7-10 working days to get the ADSL ceased off your line & then looking at a further 3-5 working days to get it connected back to your new supplier.

So as you can see the migration code option is very much preferred (if the net is crucial for your needs).

My advice would be make sure your current contract has either finished or been cancelled before taking out a new service/agreement with a new supplier! :)
