i need advice for a friend please.
she has recently bought her first house. it was a repossession and got it for a good price. After moving in and having her gas connected ,she couldnt get the boiler to work. she got a gas fitter to come round but he told her the boiler is unserviceable and needs replacing. After reading up on the net, it seems gas fitters arnt too keen on fixing old boilers anymore (her boiler is approx 8 years old) and just want to quote for fitting new ones. She cant afford a new boiler, so at the moment is without heating or hot water. She works full time so cant get any help. She is in south cumbria. any advice would be appreciated.

Get a second opinion. Or contact the manufacturers and get one of their service engineers to look at it.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

What's the make and model of the boiler?0

Depending on what's wrong with it, it may be cheaper to get a new boiler! It will be more efficient too, but yes, get a second opinion!0

the boiler is a brand called jaguar, ive never heard of them and there doesnt seem to be much on the net about them. possibly why the gas fitter who went to look at it said to replace it0

Jaguar is not a very good make of boiler. I have a feeling it was a re-branded Glow Worm sold via Plumb Center.
Parts are available, so I cannot see why it cannot be fixed.
If all else fails, get Glow Worm, (Group Service) out on a fixed price repair, about £290 I think.0
