Hi I was reading a recent thread about checking your meter to see if you are being charged correctly so just had a look. Meter is marked FT3 and cubic feet. This is a my recent bill

Your gas usage

units used 303
303 units x 100 x correction factor 1.02264 30985.99
30985.99 x conversion factor 0.0283 876.9
876.9 cu mtrs x calorific value 39.2/ conversion factor 3.6 9548.46
units converted to kilowatt hours 9548.46 kWh

9548.46 kWh at 3.500p each £334.19
vat £16.70

= £350.89

Hope that's listed ok, i'm with ebico. Can someone advise please if this look like I'm paying correctly for my meter? we have an old boiler so presumed high bills were because of that, but thought I had better check.

Many thanks

I used a calulator on another site and got a kWh figure of 9548.51 so it seems the bill figure is correct

Zippy Can I ask between what dates did you use the 303 units?

Just trying to get an idea of usage. Thanks.

Yeah it's correct. To let you know, in the above calculations, the 303 units x 100 is converting from hundreds of cubic feet (which is what the meter measures in) to plain cubic feet.

The conversion factor of 0.0283 in the second line is converting from cubic feet to cubic meters.

After that your bill is worked out just like anyone elses. Aparently it's easier to do it this way than just straight out convert hundreds of cubic feet into kWh without going through cubic meters as a halfway point...
