Barclaycard Initial - help!

Hello,
Has anyone applied online for a barclaycard initial? Do they ask about your personal or household income? I'm considering applying for this credit card (my first one) but my personal income is only about £8000 and they ask for at least £10 000. However, if they look at household income I may qualify (£20 000). Is it worth trying?
Thx

    Hi,

Before getting my Vanquis card, I tried these guys and despite having a fair history, no CCJ's and no late payments got declined. I have since tried about 2 times to no avail.

I think they do take every income into account but could be wrong.

I'm not bothering in futher with Barclaycard. I think I just don't meet their criteria!

    Hello,
Thanks for your reply. Barclays sent me a letter with their Barclaycard Intial offer a few weeks ago. Application form asks about my personal and household income so I will probably fill it in and send back. This will be my first ever credit card application so I'm a bit nervous... I would be very surprised if I got accepted. Does the fact of being sent this offer improve my chances here? Or was it just a computer generated selection?
    thx

I think it could be something they send out to everyone but it's worth a try.

I understand fully about first credit card. My first one was a Vanquis and since having it for just over 1 year, have now been accepted for a Capital One. It's just getting that first foot on the credit ladder.

You may be surprised regarding B/C, I've know people get taken by Barclaycard when others declined.
  • I applied and got it! was a big surprise to be honest ;D my credit score must not be that bad then :p

Congrats on getting the card. What is your credit limit?

Set up a direct debit immediately. It takes up to 7 working days to set up. When you activate the card, they will ask you if you want to set up a DD.

Try upgrading to a better card in the future.
  • I set it up on the phone already! I didn't get tho why if I buy things, the statement will come thru the 8th of july..which is basically in a week! :/

I got 500 limit, not to bad actually, I will keep this and the vanquis in case... :)

I will definetely use it for 6-9 months in a good way and then upgrade in the future!

    Excellent!

When you log into online banking, the direct debit section, there should be a 'tick' meaning that it is setup already. Check your bank account online banking to see if the direct debit is there too.

Did you buy anything yet? If so, I guess you need to pay the statement amount. Pay it manually, as the direct debit hasn't been set up yet, as it takes up to 7 working days. They take the direct debit on the due date.

You've got a good credit limit. I've heard that they will increase your limit automatically at some point.
