Trying get money back from EDF after switching my gas and electric to another supplier.

Finally got EDF to close the electricity account, they had wait for the readings from the new supplier - - Okay could live with that.

No word on the gas.

Two weeks later I rang and chased my refund, to be told account only closed yesterday (Sunday 19th November), it will take a further two weeks for it to go through the system.

I received my final electricity bill, EDF owe me approximately £650, it says on the bill that "Your final balance is £.... in credit. As this is your final bill, we will refund this amount ot your account" waited for my account to be credited, or for a cheque to arrive............... nothing.

Yesterday 7th December, 17 days since account closed, and 7 days since final bill I rang EDF. I was told they needed to complete 'special' paperwork as the amount to be refunded was so high, they needed to get higher management to sign it off.

EDF did call me back to say that they had got this paperwork signed off, and that my account now read 'Pending 24 hours' and that the money would be in my account tomorrow morning.

I asked at this time, what about the Gas?

Oh, we need a final meter reading ...........AHHHHH

They found the final meter reading, and my EDF Gas account now says 'Account closed', it will bill me overnight. So I will know how much credit I will receive. I was advised it will be about £430

THIS MORNING.

No money credited to my bank account (yes DD is still set up)

I spoke to EDF, same person I spoke to yesterday, she straight away said, I don't understand why your gas bill hasn't come out, and she couldn't understand why the electricity account still says 'Pending 24 hours' perhaps it needs a full 24 hours?? I asked to speak to her Manager.

He said "Ahh **** has the wrong end of the stick, Once it goes into pending, the money will take a further 10 working days to be refunded to my account!"

I've told him, its my money, approx £1000 I want it refunded immediately they've held onto it for long enough, and I want to talk to his Manager (also threatened them with Watchdog). I'm still waiting for a call back..............

Sorry for the long post, what I want to know is

Send them a recorded delivery letter saying you intend to charge them £25 a day interest from 23rd of November ( 4 days for BACS transfer after account closure day ) . You will not get it but it may give them a jolt !

We're still with EDF (was via SWEB) as for us we'd be mighty stupid to switch away as the tariff we are on (not available to new customers) is £190 per year cheaper than the next cheapest if we were to move.

We had got in front a few months ago, I just sent a secure message through their site asking for the amount in credit to be refunded to us, within a few days it was sorted.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
