Try and restrict access to your garden, a padlock on your garden gate is a good start0

Lock on your Gate
Trellis on top of your fence
Prickly shrubs planted in your flower beds
High security locks on all doors, ground floor windows and accessible first floor windows
Security lighting
Get a safe to keep you valuables in
Don't leave car keys close to the front door.
Get a decent sized dog - one that is very territorial.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Wired alarms personally as I have installed 100's of them I would fit a C&K800L simple to use and a neat little keypad. I would also install an internal sound bomb with this system - an extremely loud annoying siren.
Wireless I would go for Infinite Prime alarm, again simple to use and add on as much as you want. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
What your budget? Alarm won't put off a lot of burglars. Its mainly druggies now a days and they don't have a lot to loose by getting caught and a lot of neighbours will just ignore them. Best bet is to make it hard as possible to begin with As par Phills recommendation. If you do get alarm get one with a sim card link that texts/call you if its set off so you can investigate/call a neighbour.
IP camera that send you email when there activated are a god send. More likely to get your stuff back if you can identify the offender quickly.0 -

Grilles are really the last resort. They look ugly and advertise that you have something worth stealing. Most burglaries are done by teenagers / young lads looking for a few quid to fund their habits. Basic decent security as highlighted above will deter all but the most professional burglars.
Ask your local Crime Prevention Officer from your local police station to pop round and they will give you sound advice.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
One thing I would recommend for a few quid is a uv marker pen...seriously !
A good few years back I had my car broken into, only a week or two earlier the police were giving these markers away free at the local tesco's. Sat in my car I decided to mark the cd player up.
Anyhow reported the car break in and the fact the cd player har been ripped out and the fact it was uv marked. 3 hours after reporting it I had a phone call from the police, "mr mb ? its the police, I cant believe im telling you this as its never happened to me before in my 20 yrs in the force, but because you had marked your stereo we've i'd it, and its ready for you to i'd it at the station"
I did indeed go and id it and it was mine, it was found in a scroats car when he got pulled so he got done for theft as his prints were all over the car as well. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
