nPower Overestimates

I have been with nPower for a year or so now, and it doesn't often send anyone around to read the meter, so they just estimate what they think I will use based on the average.
So far I have read the meter myself and phoned them to tell them the reading, and they have sent a new bill a few days later.
This time they have over estimated by about 300%, but it occurs to me that if I pay their estimate now I'll have to pay virtually nothing next time when the price of gas and electricity will both have gone up by about 10%.
Surely it's better to be making 10% by investing in power for the future, rather than 1.5% by keeping it in the savings account for six months?
Does that make sense to everyone else?

If it's way, way out, they may have another go at working it out later. Apart from that it would work.

It'll work provided that they don't actually send someone to read the meter - and then when they carry on estimating the usage the next bill after price rises will be sky high ...and you won't be able to correct it without alerting them to the situation !!!
