The AA - Membership refund when deceased
Options
My father passed away on 28th April and I recently contacted the AA to cancel his membership (he had been a member for over 40 years!). I was put on to the 'support' unit and informed (after the representative had tried to get me to transfer his membership to another family member - very insensitive I thought!) that they cannot refund membership fees.
His membership fee was automatically taken on 1st March - it just seems very wrong to me that they would not refund at least a proportion of his membership fee in these circumstances (ie 10/12's!). Anyone got any views or come across this before?

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.
Cancellation and no refund has been brought up before, the usual response being "it's in the t&c's" but no one has ever posted any link to show this is a fair condition.
I would write a written complaint to the AA, and if they still refuse, refer the complaint to the FOS, and they may decide once and for all if it is fair or not.

The trouble is it's an annual contract. Best to transfer it to someone if that is an option.0
