Council Tax Benefit error

I just wanted to say that i have a huge overpayment of council tax benefit due to tax credits.
My situation was that my credits were going up and down over the course of the year. Pound here and there sometimes £5. I didnt think to inform council as i didnt see it was a significant change of income BUT as the council worked out over the course of a year all those few pounds put me over the weekly thresholds for entitlement and so there were some weeks i was not entitled to anything as so i ended up with a near £600 arrears for last year.
I have now started paying this years with benefit at £80pm and have to pay £54pm for the arrears so i am in a pickle but it HAS to be paid otherwise the council will just take it from my partners earnings.
With council tax we HAVE to pay it and unfortunatly its hard when you claim benefits as any slight slip up has HUGE consequences.
