in Credit cards
I am writing this threat as I am deeply unhappy at the service I have received from my HALIFAX CREDIT CARD after beening victime of a Fraud abroad... and I hope nobody has to go throug the same experience that me, as well as wondering what's the best thing to do now...
On the 06-May-2011 I was taken to a food massage place called DRAGON VENTURE MILLENNIUM CO.LTD. as part of a tour while I was on holidays in China. (We had not been told this was included in the tour when we booked it.) While in there, I was sold a few natural herbal tablets from Tibet “to increase my blood pressure and improve blood circulation”, as I was told it was very low by the health expert and President of the Centre Mr GUOXIN WU.
The price of the tablets were an equivalent of £35 in Chinese currency so I agreed to pay with my Halifax Master Card.
They took it away while I was receiving a food massage and bought it back to the room asking me to sign while another three people were talking to me. I signed the figure in Chinese yuans to later realised they had add and extra cero, charging me £351.72 for the tablets!
(See the attached receipt).
As soon as I realised I’d been actively DEFRAUDED I called my Halifax Credit Card number (on the 14th-May), and was told that nothing could be done and I had no option but to loose all that money. I receive absolutely not support from them but just felt blamed for using my Credit Card abroad.
It would have been very helpful to have received an alert from the bank before paying this transaction, to make me aware of these fraudulent charges, as it is clearly out of my normal spending.
Considering the price I paid for these goods, they should do what it says it does, but the tablets don’t fit the prescription, they were supposed to elevate my blood pressure, and in the product description it says it is for calming the nerves...!
I was also told they didn’t have side effects and they also had a really bad reaction (I had a nose bleeding for 3 days and had to stop taking them immediately).
I emaild the Chinese place (longmaiqianxi@126.com)but they have ignored all my emails...
I’m deeply disappointed with the lack of service I’ve received from my Bank and am left wondering why I’ve got my Credit card, Savings and Mortgage with this Bank?
Have I got any rights in all this?

They seem to have delivered what they said they would, but charged you a price which you don't agree with. So there's little, if anything, that Halifax can do, I'd have thought. It's not a simple section 75 claim. Probably a legal issue of overcharging, unless the receipt specifies a unit cost that differs from anything previous given to you.
But the whole thing of 'food massages' and dodgy tablets seems a bit shonky, so you're going to have a hard time proving anything.0 -
If you signed the receipt for the inflated price then there is almost certainly nothing your card co can do.
I would expect other banks would have treated this just the same way.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

I agree, you signed the receipt, you have to accept the debit. You should always check the amount on anything you are asked to sign BEFORE signing and ask for a copy.0
